Ground Breaking Ceremony for 5-Screen Cinemark Theatre at The Dunes on Monterey Bay

A groundbreaking ceremony for a new state-of-the-art Cinemark 5-screen, digital cinema located in the heart of The Dunes on Monterey Bay shopping venue took place on Monday October 20th at 11am.

Attendees that will be present at the ceremony include: Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado, Monterey County Supervisor Jane Parker, Cinemark Marketing Manager Jennifer Wood, Layne Marceau, President of Shea Homes Northern California Division, Jeff Melrose, Vice President of Development for Shea Properties, Wendy Elliott, Community Development Manager for Marina Community Partners.

The new Century NextGen Theatre at the Dunes Shopping Center will offer the newest technology, cutting edge amenities and customer-preferred options all under one roof. Every auditorium in the theatre complex offers a state-of-the-art viewing environment with wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screens, Barco DLP projectors, RealD 3D versatility and 7.1 JBL sound systems. The theatre will also feature a Cinemark XD: Extreme Digital Cinema auditorium. It is scheduled to open in summer 2015, just in time for the traditional blockbuster season.

Adjacent to the California State University Monterey Bay campus, The Dunes Town Square and the new Cinemark Century Theatre complex is expected to become an important off campus benefit to the school.

The Dunes on Monterey Bay Community Highlights include:

  • Designated by the State of California as a silver level Catalyst Community for demonstrating a commitment to sustainable communities by incorporating innovative strategies designed to increase housing supply and affordability;
  • The Dunes is set to improve jobs, housing balance; stimulate job creation and retention; enhance transportation modal choices and more.
  • The project will generate nearly 800 direct and indirect construction jobs with a $33 million annual payroll. By 2020, The Dunes is expected to yield several thousand permanent jobs with a $193 million annual payroll.

About The Dunes on Monterey Bay

Built on the former site of military base Fort Ord, The Dunes on Monterey Bay is recycling on a grand scale. Designed as a live/work/play community, the master plan offers smart growth, sustainability, and more. Overall, The Dunes on Monterey Bay will create over 5,000 jobs. Its new transportation network will feature a transit hub, a proposed light rail station, bus priority access through intersections, bike routes, and pedestrian paths. It will add 42 acres of parks, open space and trails. For its many merits, The Dunes was selected as a California Catalyst Community by the State Department of Housing and Community Development.
